First Spring Mixer of 2014

The Coosa Valley Tennis Association in coordination with the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority is hosting a Friday night social mixer.  It's laid back and lots of fun for all skill levels.

The cost to participate is $5.  All proceeds will go towards moving the the tennis checkin at the RTC, downstairs.
  • When: Friday, April 25 @ 6pm
  • Where: Rome Floyd Tennis Center, downtown Rome, GA
  • Cost: $5
  • Format: Mixed round robin, changing partners and opponents each round.  Most partners will be mixed (male & female).
  • Extras: Food and drinks will be provided

Lawrence Plantation Open House

Lawrence Plantation, a new tennis club, has opened at the former Horseleg Creek country club.  They are having an open house on April 26 from 10am to 2pm.  There will be food and drinks and drills for adults and kids.  They have an array of membership options for their 3 indoor and 5 outdoor courts.  They also have a Pro Shop and pool.  Visit their website or view the open house brochure for more information.


New Counters Installed

New CountersWith funds from the CVTA, our league coordinator, Eddie Stokes, has been working with David Araiza to have new counters installed downstairs at the Rome Tennis Center.  This will enable checkin downstairs which means no more climbing stairs.  You'll be able to enter the tennis center through one of the side fences.  

The counters and downstairs checkin should be ready within a week.

RTC Junior Tennis Tournament

The Rome Tennis Circuit (RTC) is having their third junior tournament the weekend of May 10-11.

This is third junior tournamant by the RTC after their first two very successfull tournaments.  

The RTC was created by J.P. Selle, from Coosa Country Club, Cristian Lopez and David Araiza, from the Rome Tennis Center, to provide beginner and intermediate tennis players opportunities to learn tennis and play locally.

Just Sports and Tennis League

The annual Just Sports and Tennis league starts on April 22nd.

The Just Sports league is sponsered by Just Sports and Tennis on 2nd Ave in Rome.  The are graciously providing $200 gift certificates to the winning teams!  The league coordinator is working on awards for second place as well.

This unique league offers a combination of men's doubles, women's doubles and 2 mixed doubles lines each week.  The matches are 8 game pro sets and the winning team is determined by the number of games won (not matches won).

  • 5 week season
  • $15 league fee, payable to the CVTA
  • League starts April 22nd.


  • 7.0 on Tuesdays
  • 6.0 & 8.0 on Thursdays

Additional Info:

  • Minimum of 2 women and 2 men per team.  Maximum of 10 total per team.
  • No lines may surpase the flight's NTRP rating.
  • Gender doubles plays first followed by mixed doubles.
  • The same players can play in both the gender doubles and mixed doubles lines.
  • This league does not affect you USTA rating.

Introducing the Rome Tennis Academy

Monday, March 24th, will be the official start of the new Rome Tennis Academy (RTA). They will have programs for every level of player, from beginner to advanced, to ensure that kids in Rome get the chance to learn a sport they can play for the rest of their lives.

To help reach that goal, a new coach, Cristian Lopez, will be joining the RTC. Cristian comes from Dunwoody Country Club, where for the last 6 years he was in charge of junior and adult programs. He is a USPTA 1 certified coach, and serves on the board of both USPTA Southern and GPTA. He is an invaluable asset to RTA.

3-5 Years Old
$15/individual or $40/4 sessions paid in advance
8 & Under
$15/individual or $40/4 sessions paid in advance
10 & Under
Monday-Thursday, Friday Ladder Play
$15/individual or $40/4 sessions paid in advance

The Rome Tennis Center is now offering year long tennis passes.  This could save you money over paying the $4 court fee each time.  The break even point is about 3 visits per month, less for college students and seniors.  Contact the tennis center at 706-290-0072, or ask the next time you are playing downtown.

Coosa International Tennis Academy

Coosa Country Club invites all juniors to join their after school tennis program, known as the Coosa International Tennis Academy, or CITA.  It's an excellent way to introduce your children to tennis or prepare them for their school tennis team or for competitive tournaments.  The costs are very reasonable for this level of instruction.  

All skill ranges and ages are welcome, starting from Teddy Tennis, once a week to advanced students, Monday through Friday.  All sessions are after school.

The program is run by the Coosa Country Club and JP Selle, the club's tennis pro.  Club members receive CITA tuition discounts.
